American Beef Producer in Russia to Shake-Up Cattle Futures

An Oklahoma beef producer – who responded to an advertisement in a farming publication – now finds himself at the apex of Russia’s cattle industry.  Anthony Stidham, a third-generation cattle rancher from Ada, OK is collaborating with Russian officials to become self-sufficient in the beef industry – and shave-off $3B from their annual cattle “bill.”

Russia is known as the world’s biggest beef importer, but if their president (Vladimir Putin) has his way, they will be competing with the USA and Australia in the not-so-distant future.  It won’t be easy though…even after working on this cattle project for two years, five banks had rejected funding the beef project after seeing it as “too risky.”

Cattle…demand is an uncertain factor at this point. Russia is working on being self sufficient in cattle production, working with Oklahoma rancher Anthony Stidham on cattle rearing skills,” said Barb Levy, chief director of Futures & Options Xecution’s Futures Division in Chicago, regarding the current cattle futures situation.

Cattle futures are in a prominent up-trend at this time, but were down big today.  I am only looking for lower-risk opportunities in cattle futures after the market has taken a dip (or significant pull-back) first.
